April 2010
Gardening Graces  Newsletter

QUICK LINKS
Dear Readers,

Welcome again and Happy Spring again!

I opened with this in the last newsletter and a happy spring it has been in Michigan. Why? Because we've actually had one! Yahoo! It has been very warm (sometimes even hot) and the flowering ornamental trees have put an a display worthy of applause. I am a little concerned, however, that there may be nothing left for an overture. The serviceberries, cherries, pears and redbuds are either done blooming or in their final stages. The crabapples could actually start blooming in April and that is very early for Michigan.

Social media and pollinators continue to find their way into this newsletter through the links in the sidebar. and below. Thank you to all those who have become fans on Facebook! The link to the Gardening Graces Facebook page is in the following article box and I invite you to check it out and become a fan.

But the main feature of this newsletter is the article on boxwood leaf miners. The link below will take you to the article and the accompanying photos. This is an ever increasing problem in our area and
if you have boxwood you need to see this!!

     Boxwood Leaf Miner Infestation

If you indeed find this pest in your boxwood, please call me so that we can determine a course of action.

Save Our Pollinators Here It Is

Here is another invitation to watch the video made right here in Washtenaw County Michigan that will no doubt have you cheerleading for bees. The video includes children which always makes for a better product in my opinion. Just a little heads up; one little girl steals the show. She actually closes out the video lending a charm that cannot be duplicated and leaving a smile on your face. Watch here.

Habitat loss, pesticide use and disease have taken a big toll on the creatures that pollinate our flowers and edible crops. Some of you have requested that we include pollinator friendly plants in our work. Great idea! Please consider this if you haven't already.

We would love to assist you in this worthy cause. You can request our help by calling us at 734 482-8230.

Click here to get more information about pollinatorsand download a free "Pollinator Friendly Planting Guide". It's as easy as typing in your zip code.

Thanks again for letting me share your time.

A fellow landscape professional wrote that in a recent poll, the word 'landscaping' was interpreted by the public as sexy and the word 'gardening' was interpreted as work. Ought oh. 'Working Graces' not exactly what I had in mind. But I'm sticking with the name. After all it was divinely appointed. You can read about that here.
