QUICK LINKS

Hi everyone! Good news! You may not be hearing much of that in the media, from our highest officials or the guy on the street, but it is there. And lots of it. I see it and hear about it all the time. Sometimes it's just in the way you see and hear. Thinking on the good things invigorates and lifts me up and I encourage you all to join me.

Have any of you noticed yourself being more grateful for what you do have than maybe you were before? I have. And if I may offer some unsolicited advice, don't give in to fear, about anything at any time.

I know, not your typical gardening newsletter theme but yet a good one. I think that one reason I am in this business of plants, design, and beauty is because it fosters restoration, joy and an overall sense of well being. I hope it does for you too.

I will bring good news now and through out the year. And I'll start with some good news about how to save money from Gardening Graces. Find out how by clicking the links in the side bar on the left.

Good News!

Pretty soon we'll be seeing lots of these!!

And don't forget to keep your poinsettias alive so you can use them again come spring like I did last year. See that planter? A poinsettia is in there doing its thing. And I have another one waiting in the wings for its spring debut 2009.

And did you know that there are plenty of other plants that can do double duty like the poinsettia? Many houseplants can spend the summers outdoors. And lots of plants that are sold as tender (meaning they would not make it through a Michigan winter) container plants can be brought in during the winter.

I got on a tropical kick last year and bought several. Some of you know about my banana trees. Here are two more. Both are in the house for the winter but look at my Bird of Paradise! It's putting on a show during the dead of winter. And this is just one of at least five blooms.

This Bougainvillea bloomed all last summer. Although it is not blooming now, it is green and ready for another go as soon as  I set it out again after frost.
