Dear Barbara,
Welcome, once again, to the Gardening Graces Newsletter! Have
any of you noticed the little orange pile-up in the corners of your
windows and walls? Or found yourself batting wildly at flying insects
dive bombing you out of no where - inside your house in the middle of
winter?!!! Or woken up in the morning with an itchy spot on your
knuckle that you could swear has a little raised area proving that some
insect took advantage during the night? Well, then get this! You (and I
apparently) have a Multi-colored Asian Ladybeetle problem. Yikes! But fear not, you can find out (about that unpleasant smell and that biting propensity for instance) and what to do about them right here.
And if I saved just one of you from an itchy knuckle, then that makes me happy.

GET DIRTY, BE HAPPY
Hoping to increase your interest in horticulture, back in January 2008 I let you all in on a little soil secret, yeah, dirt is good for you! And while all of us know how essential soil is to plants, studies have actually confirmed that soil is really good for people too. Researchers at Bristol University and University College London discovered that the soil bacteria Mycobacterium vaccae helps elevate your mood.
Originally used to treat cancer patients' pain, scientists found that
bacterium also increased feelings of well being and that studies with mice
found that M. vaccae
exudes a very positive vibe in the brain. Did you hear that?! Kind of
like when you exercise and feel good after. A natural high!
But I realize
that not everyone is going to be persuaded by this evidence and anyway
not everyone has the time or inclination to work in the soil. That's
why Gardening Graces exists and now is the time to let us take on that
outdoor project, garden or renovation that you have been thinking about
and longing to do for some time now.
So
if dirty isn't for you and all that yard work stresses you out,
then let us help you de-stress. Enjoy the serenity and beauty of your
home with the highest level of landscape design and garden maintenance.
Let Gardening Graces take the burden out of yard care for good.

You'll know we were there!

Save Our Pollinators
I want
to remind you all again about this very important subject. Next month I
will present a video made right here in Washtenaw County that will no
doubt have you cheerleading for bees.
Habitat
loss, pesticide use and disease have taken a big toll on the creatures
that pollinate our flowers and edible crops. Some of you have
requested that we include pollinator friendly plants in our work. Great
idea!
We would love to assist you in this worthy cause. You can request our help by calling us at 734 482-8230.
Click here to get more information about pollinators and download a free "Pollinator
Friendly Planting Guide". It's as easy as typing in your zip code.

Thanks again for letting me share your time. I
applaud you all for looking after your yards and gardens. They enhance
the value of our lives. And you can never go wrong protecting this
most valuable investment, which is increased 15% through its landscape.
Thank you also for your many referrals. For these I am most grateful. I welcome and reward them too.
Well I must go determine my plan of action to deal with my orange bugs. And by the way, there is a little red dot on my knuckle. I swear.
Have a wonderful winter!
