Welcome, once again, to
the Gardening Graces Newsletter! Just because
I haven't written since October doesn't mean that I haven't missed you
all. I have.
Are you
curious about what they sell at Home Depot?
Take a look
at this!
I
know! I couldn't believe it. I got out my phone and snapped this
photo. When I asked the little boy's grampa which aisle he found that
little wonder in, he played along and pointed back into the store. Ok,
so you really can't buy cute little children at the big box stores, it
sure makes for a precious little photo op and good beginning to a long
overdue newsletter.

You can Do
This...
In my last newsletter I told you about my efforts to extend
the growing season into November even here in Michigan. It can be done. And if you
would like the thrill of eating fresh picked produce out of your garden
even up to Thanksgiving, you must try this. The picture was taken in
November 2009 and includes butterhead and red leaf lettuce as well as
spinach. All were great!
I start
these seeds at the end of summer right in the garden but I take special
care to protect my future salads both from the cold and the deer by
using row covers as demonstrated in these pictures.

And You Can
Do This....
What grow
flowers out of bricks you ask? Well what then? Plant them in shallow
little pots or in the teeny bit of space under the fence? Sounds like a
lot of work to me. Well this little trick was no work at all!! Char is
a client of mine who has also become a very good friend and last spring
she had a few cells of impatiens that she just never got planted. Not
to worry, Char came up with the perfect solution and you can do this too.
She simply
put them on a tray. She never even popped them out of their cells. They
looked beautiful all season and the only requirement for achieving
that little bit of unexpected beauty was to keep them watered. Thanks
for the tip, Char.
