Removing a Tree Doesn't Always Have to be Sad

We used rocks to give definition to the bed and deal with an unruly stump. By doing so it gave the bed a bit of topography and more visual appeal. Removal of the pine allowed me to showcase some of my favorite trees behind the bed once hidden by the pine. Adding all the plant jewelry to the front was just more fun.

I have a very severe deer problem and so planted with them in mind by including many deer resistant plants. See the arborvitae to the left? It has been deer pruned and now shows its legs. The vulnerable plants get fairly regular sprays of Liquid Fence as I train the deer to stay away.
